You *are* able to send AT in Hyperterminal, it just doesn't appear on the screen
as you type.
The reply from the modem "OK", will appear if all is working.

Make sure Hyperterminal is set to the same baud rate as your modem.

With modem, we have DB9 connector but with module there is no DB9 connector.

I want help regarding interfacing SIM300 with 8051. Please help me.

so to set baud rate the very first command we need to send is "AT+IPR=xxxx " right? But i m confused 'coz i read that initially we should only send "AT" command, to check the module, and we should get "OK" back in reply.....so now i m confused whether i should use simple "AT" command or "AT+IPR=xxxx"

Hi realpramod!!!

firstly let me know whether u want to interface hardware or software of SIM300 with 8051?....coz for hardware interfacing of SIM300 and 8051 we do not need DB9 connector and for software interfacing we need DB9 connector for burning the program from PC to microcontroller!!!

Hi pakvainim!

Thank you for reply.

Now we have designed PCB with RS-232 interface to which we have connected Wavecom GSM modem and it works.

But now we come across SIM 300 module which easy very cost effective.
But

1) we not able to figure out how much it will affect our design.
2)I heard SIM 300 costs Rs.1700-1800 in India. Is it right?
3)How to interface SIM 300 with micro-controller ?Is it easier?Any reference Circuit diagram?

Some of this questions might be easy...but I am computer engg students...so please concider it.

it will be very helpful for me if you guide me.

Please.

sorry...I forget to mention 1 thing, we don't require DB9 connector as we are using separate downloader for burning program to microcontroller.

A basic SIM300 module plugs onto the circuit board using a special
multi iway connector.
Problems you may have are
mounting the module on your circuit board,
Soldering the fine connector,
providing a power supply able to provide the high current pulses needed to
transmit.
The tx and rx pins are 5 volt(ish) so can connect directly to the micro.

Is using the SIM300 easier than the Wavecom.. I doubt it.

Visit the Simcon website for proper information.
Simcon may make a ready made unit like the Wavecom modem, but it will cost more.
