Hello every one. I am thinking to Display characters as if like Short Message at mobile in a 16x2 LCD using DTMF. Its similar as if like "DTMF based device control". Here instead of controlling devices we display characters on LCD. I am going to use 8051 for it. Within it i want to use Timers and ext. interrupts. So would it be possible to do it.

Yes thats possible. use MT8870 DTMF decoder IC for this purpose, you can take reference from DTMF based device control project to know how to use this IC.

It will be a good project to work on. Best of luck.

sure.. you can do something like this.. each character is separated by '*' key so just like our mobile keypad..

if you press 2 once and then * its a, if 2 twice and then * its b and 2 thrice with * its c.
similarly with other keys.. check your mobile keypad for more help.

so every DTMF will be stored on you controller's buffer, there it can be decoded and displayed on LCD.
