you can go for this IC DS89C450/DS89C430
http://www.maxim-ic.com/quick_view2.cfm/qv_pk/4078

It also comes in DIP package.

Can i change the value of SCON register for different UART modes

For example:

RS-485 i need to use the UART in 9 bit mode
RS-232 i need to use the UART in 8 bit mode

I have only one serial port (as the original purpose of this thread). Can i use both UARTs (8 bit, 9 bit) modes simultaneously?

no you cannot, you have to reinitialize your uart registers to make changes in the mode. and only one kind of uart can work at a time.

I know that the C8051F34x family have two serial ports.

sorry for replying so late.
C8051F34x are controllers supported by SILabs.
they have in circuit programming facility through USB.
you can anyway order there programmer for production.

lProgress is not made by early risers or hard workers, but by LAZY people, trying to find easier ways to do the same........
