you better try this way..
change the sms format like add a starting and ending byte to your message
e.g. *Switch1ON#
so it will be easy for you to read. you wait for * and after receiving * start storing data till #.

Thank you Ajay.

I understand the concept. Its no problem. The problem i am facing is storing the Data in array in assembly language.

I have tried using something like:
mov dptr,#Test
movx @dptr,a
inc dptr

Test: DB " ", 00H

but this does not work on hyperterminal (however shows correct output in pinnacle simulation

Can you help me understand the command AT+CNMI

I want to get an interrupt on my uC (At89S51) when a new SMS arrives. I am using Nokia 6080.

Currently i am trying AT+CNMI=2,3,2,0,0

What does this mean.

you wont get any interrupt, but you can get an unsolicited response from mobile whenever you get a new sms.

have you gone through the CNMI description? what part you did not understand?

Ajay what do you mean by unsolicited response?

How would the controller know if a new message has arrived?

No sorry i haven't gone through the description of CNMI. Just read somewhere that we need to send it.

Can you please kindly help me understand how to let the controller know when a new message arrives.

Normally you (the micro) sends a command and the phone replies.
An unsolicited response is sent by the phone without the micro asking for it.

Just continuously monitor any chars from the phone
until a message arrives saying "you have an SMS"
