Hello every one. I just want to know " What is the constant time delay maintained by atmega16 for the timers if i connect 4MhZ Crystal Oscillator with a prescaler of ÷1 ". Where as in 8051 if we connect 12Mhz XTAL then, o/p of 12Mhz is given to "÷12". That means constant time delay is 1µsec. What about Atmega16? Is there also a divider before or after the XTAL rather than the prescaler?

since the timers in avr have separate circuit , they run independent of the main core. therefore ---

Timer Resolution = prescale / input frequency

so, for 5 Mhz with prescaler 1,

Timer Resolution = 0.0000002 sec or 0.2 us
