hi
i want to make a digital guitar tuner. I've basically thought of a microphone to receive the audio from the acoustic guitar, a ADC(808 may be) to sample the signal from microphone, and AT89c51 timer to count and convert it to appropriate frequency and display the corresponding note like A,A#,C,D etc.But i am confused in some things, like the signal from microphone is AC, do i need do convert it to dc before sending the signal to ADC?+does the microphone output is according to the frequency of the input sound note? Also i think the input from guitar should only be taken for a short interval of time to prevent multiple reflections that increase the frequency of the sound.secondly, i searched on the forum and got some idea about converting the ADC output to corresponding frequency by delaying the timer by 1 sec.I am also not sure on the programming parts, and general connections. If you need more information please say. Well i've only thought these things, i may be wrong, please correct me in that case. Thanks

-peace

Well there is lot of other electronics involved too other than just sampling using ADC.

I found this project which explains the whole theory behind a guitar tuner. Just go through it once.
