hello people,

I am trying to make a score board with 18 Seven Segments. I am planning to use a PIC microcontroller.

But I have no idea how I am gonna connect all Segments and switches to one or two PICs.

I would really appreciate if anyone of you likes to share how to connect them.

thank you very much indeed

Thank you very much Pravin

Thant link guide me to connect a ONE segment to a PIC Microcontroller.. To be honest I have 18 Seven segments to connect to one or two PICs. At the moment I am finding hard to do that with my limited number of I/O in PIC.

hi sssuneth
connect a,b,c,d,e,f,g of 18 pieces to each other and then connect to any port u want now use decoder that u want according to ur need
if ur pieces are common cathode then use 74ls154 decoder
if common anode then use 74hct4514
u can also use uln2803 for current sink
u can also use shift register as overall u need multiplexing

majoka is right..

for you to save port use decoder and do multiplexing and you will just consumed 4ports from your controller with that all 18 seven segments

Thank you very much indeed Majoka and Emperado..

I may need few more guidence, in that case i will write to you guys directly..

Hey don't forget pravin_35
It is probably not a good idea to direct your questions to particular people,
you could miss out.
You can be sure Majoka and romel_emperado will see your posts and help if they can.

Actually multiplexing 18 digits will be pushing it,
each one will be on so little it may be too dim.
Consider driving in groups of 6 (or less), or using latches, one per digit.

As the main function of a scoreboard is to be seen
I think it will be worth the extra hardware needed.

Thanks to you guys I manage to draw a schematic to connect 7Segments to PIC Micro controller with a multiplexer (HEF4067).

Now I have 24 tactile buttons to connect to a Port of PIC(16F887). have you guys got an idea how can i connect them?
can I use the same multiplexer?
