sir i am still on a hunt for the cell phone..but i will manage to get it in two days...
i wanted t ask you if i am right when i think these are the basic steps i need to follow..
1. first connect the mobile to pc and check whether the phone communic ates through AT commands...
2. i have to retrieve the sms and decode it in case its in PDU format
3. i have to set the same baud rate in both the microcontroller as wll as the phone.
4. i use RS232 to connect the phone to the microcontroller (using MAX 232 chip)
5. send AT commands from the microcontroller to the mobbile phone..

pls correst me if i am wrong anywhere.. thank u..

sir,
i tried using motorola v3i. it runs all the AT commands on PC successfully. but when i connected it with the microcontroler..i did it this way... i connected the data cable of the phone to a flash cable(which has one end as USB and other as RS232). it somehow doesnt respond. moreover my teacher told me that whichever phone i use it should be able to communicate without a driver. pls suggest me something.. as i am running out of time..

well even if you get a phone with at command and pdu format. Then use it. There is one thing can be done possibly for pdu format. Keep your commands sent over sms constant. So you can store that constant string in controller. Any command sent different from those will be considered as invalid. And did you tested your flasher cable with pc hyper terminal? And do check if any other shop other than tx rx are used in db9. So you need to configure those pins too.

also i am first testing the codes onn the college kits so dont know how to configure the DB 9 pins that u said..pls tell me what should i know abt them ill read itmyself...
u had earlier replied to someone saying that we need to short VCC and the DTR pin..pls elaborate on that too..

Right now do not worry about this driver thing.. coz when you work on 8051, you work on drivers only but in general they are called functions to drive the peripheral

For a person who don't know about programing stuff they call it drivers. So drivers are a general name understandable to all.

If your teacher say something just tell him/her "ok" the best answer you can give.

Now regarding connection with micro. I want you to do test with PC first.. download a software like real term (for serial communication) where you can control pins like DTR and RTS. So you will come to know whether there is any special care to be taken for these pins or not. Coz generally when working on hyerterminal DTR and RTS pins are always high, and AT command works with PC but not with controller. You think that only RX and TX are needed but it could be possible that any of DTR or RTS pins were needed to make those AT command work. So have to consider the case with DTR and RTS low simulating the case of micro on PC itself. I hope you got what i am trying to say

Sorry I cannot chat as such. I hardly get time from my work. Please make full use of this website and ask whatever doubt you have.
