IR Decoder for general purpose

Hi,

I have project development panel, which will be having different kind of power supplies, DC, AC, Multimeter inbuilt etc.

When i am trying some projects i used vary the voltages(DC) as we obviously needed. But i will be having trouble to go near panel to vary the voltage, since i am keeping my working board 1/2 meter distance.

So i am planning to keep an IR receiver in my panel where i want increase or reduce voltages using remote control like volume control in audio system.

What is the variable resistor name/product which will be using for this application?
Also i can add some more feature like switching ON and OFF the AC outputs using the same remote etc.

Can i use the following circuit or is there any special IR decoder IC and schematics available?? If the decoder supports any remote is good and well, is it possible??

the above works with RC5 remote controls. There is no variable resistor used in this project.

Hi i knew there is no variable resistor used in this.
But i want to control variable resistor via IR without relays(Means not any different fixed resistance switching), Lets say first two pins used to reduce and increase resistance value. The remaining pins i can go with relays as per schematic.

How is that possible? I heard some motor control resistors are available, which can be controlled simply by driving the motor clock and anti clock wise.

Is there any other better thing available like IC or something??

look for digital potentiometer.
