Hi,

Can anyone help me select a microcontroller which has two serial ports. I prefer if the controller is compatible with ATMEL 89S51 or its other models so that the code can be the same. I want to code it in Assembly language.

I want to use one serial port with RS-232 and the other one with RS-485.

u could use the actual uart of 89s51 for rs485.
chose any two pins and u can ake anothe uart port by the software uart code in the tutorial.

lProgress is not made by early risers or hard workers, but by LAZY people, trying to find easier ways to do the same........

Thanks shyam. I have read through the software UART you mentioned. I dont think i can add serial interrupt to this software UART or can I?

I will be needing two serial interrupts, one for actual UART and one for software UART. Will this be possible?

Try this page
https://www.silabs.com/products/mcu/pages/default.aspx

I know that the C8051F34x family have two serial ports.

Thank you ExperimenterUK, I have read a little bit whats on that page.

I have two questions

Will i need a separate program burner for this IC
Will the same code for 8051 work with this (I know that IC name does contain 8051 but i want to be sure)

Sorry, I know nothing about programming this device.
I just came across it and remembered you were looking for something similar.

download its datasheet, and see programming information. Most probably, its gonna be ISP programmable i.e. no special programmer needed.

Still lingering on with the problem

Cant find a microcontroller in Atmel series which has two serial ports which can be used separately with two different timers and SCON registers.

Found one dallas controller 80C320 but it is not available in local market.

Any other suggestions please? :-s

Shyam is talking about software UART tutorial avaiable in the tutorials section of this website. He was suggesting that i try implementing a serial port via software

I still dont have any leads in the two serial port ATMEL microcontroller .. just keep on looking.
