I fu want a higher resolution, then u can go for ICL 7129 which is a 4 1/2 digit (+/-20,000 counts) LCD driver. check the datasheets for the respecive ICs for their configuraton. well if you are talking about 4-digit LCD segment display then they work same as your 7-segment LED display. If you know how to write on 7-seg LED then you can easily work with LCD.
