I am currrently doing a project on solar tracking system and would need to interface it to PC. PIC16F877A to PC serial port using RS232. My question is.. I would need to1-2 pin to control stepper motor, 1 pin to read LDR measurement and 2 pin for voltage/current (data). In terms of software and hardware, is it posibble to adapt all this using RS232 9 pin serial port? I did refer to the forum related to this topic and your tutorial provided on serial communication using microcontroller. But, I just need the answer, whether is it posibble for me to use serial port RS232 and control stepper motors, read LDR measurement and 2 pin for voltage/current (data)...?

you need a controller which can take data from your LCD, can control stepper motors and read voltage or current data and then send it to PC via RS232.please make sure that not all 9 pins of DB9 port is used. only RX, TX and GND pin is used for successful communication. Please ask more if anything else...

Can i use MAX232 IC to connect to PIC16F877a and then, connect the MAX232 to PC using DB-9. Is this correct? I would like to know how to connect these? Is there any circuit I can refer to similar to this? The PIC will control the stepper motor and LDR.

yes you need max232 to connect PIC with PC. if you need help on connection then visit the tutorial section and read on serial communication. And yes PIC can control stepper motor and read i/p from LDR.
