Playing songs with 8051

you need an MP3 decoder IC too.. there are 8051 Variants which has onchip MP3 decoders also comes up with USB interface

yeah well you can of course make your own hardware.. but the thing is.. it wont be easy to interface a USB drive, reason is.. you wont know how to access it.. or you need to write device driver for that.. and i have not seen anyone doing that yet for a small controller.. rather a better option is use SD/MMC i think its much easier.. simple SPI interface.. so all you need is MP3 decoder.. read from MMC and feed to the decoder thats all. other thing is the interface.. that is not a big problem once you are done with MMC part.
One more thing about MMC is.. File system so you also need to implement FAT File system which is used in windows for file storage. that will make the use of MMC or say looking for songs etc.. makes it much easier.

previously i worked on PC based .wav file player (through parallel port) .it was 8bit format and after D/A then C/V conversion sound quality was good . software was in cpp language .
