I want to make a Clock using 7 seg LED displays. But i have doubts about how the scanning will be done. During the 'Read' period of RTC, i will not have control over sacnning, which might cause a delay large enough to generate a flicker. Am i right? I did not find any LED based clocks in download section. Has anyone done this before?

you can do the other way then, If you're not sure about delay period, then use Latch shift register to display data on 7-segment and also it will save the pins as only three pins are needed for this.

Or you can use a timer which update the 7-segment after a specific period of time. That will solve the problem

ya i thought of using latches, in fact there is one IC MAX 7219 for 7 seg controller, but i want to use minimum possible hardware. i think there must be some way to do it.

well... then the other way is.. use timer to update the 7-seg its really simple.. lets say you need to update the 7-seg every 20 or 30 mS. you can experiment yourself to get the max update time that you can possibly have till you get a blinking display

yes i know you want to avoid the blink and thats why i am saying you need to find out yourself how you are going to do that..
If you are just displaying time then i think you can simply read and display.. there will not be any problem. All i can say is get the hardware ready and start testing..
