make use of TSOP 1738 + IR LED for better detection of object...
 har like this.

then use four of same kind.. he he..
or.. tell me if you have a better option

yes ,
if you want to detect magnetic objects... there are magnetic proximity sensors available...
or use ultra sonic sensor....
rotate them like a radar... they will fwtch u data (distance)...
which u can calculate.. to get proximity............
or use an rf tag reader and an rf coil / tag...
 har like this.

i m facing facing many problems in my project. i need solutions
Q1: is there any requirement of using 555 timer with the ir reciever pair of tsop series as the signal detected by the sensor is to be given to microcontroller?
Q2: is there any requirement of using interfacing device with the ir receiver except 555 timer?
Q3: substitue of tsop series1738?
Q: can we use at89s51 in place of at89c51??

Well no specific requirement just the frequency has to match. i mean if you are using TSOP1738, then 555 should generate 38Khz of frequency.

Q2: is there any requirement of using interfacing device with the ir receiver except 555 timer?

I actually did not understand your question properly. do you mean any other IC except 555? well as i said, you need a frequency generator which 555 does. this can also be done by nand gate (circuits available over internet) but personally i prefer 555.

Q3: substitue of tsop series1738?

using TSOP increase range of detection. for short range you can use IR+Phototransistor.

Q: can we use at89s51 in place of at89c51??

Yes you can use.
