to program an 89C51 you need a programmer..

also which GSM phone you are going to use in your project?
i recommend using some AT command compatible phone as they are easiest to work with..

any phone having internal GSM modem usually support AT commands. and they are fairly simple to interface just need a serial connection with phone and direct commands.

you can make use of Sony Ericsson's mobile phones usually support AT commands.

Pls Ajah, as u earlier on said that I need a programmer for the 89C51, but can't I get the source codes to program an 89C51 in assembly language from the internet, or is it compulsory that I need a programmer to do that, based on its architectural complexity. hope to hear ur reply..

Hello Ajah, you hav been of immense help to me. Well pls check out how this project would look like with its block digram representation attached below. See if it is feasible to actualise with just those items and what else need to be done or added to the circuit.

if you are trying to do the voice recognition thing with 8051 then would be a problem.. if you want to make something interactive then you can store simple pre recorded sound in your 8051 and u can play it back to the user as a response to their action reply...
I think its possible to make this project

hello! newbie here. i am kind of a guy who hates using ready - made existing libraries, so this helped a lot as i was trying to control and write to a character lcd display. however, i can't figure out how to set the cursor position. for example, i want to set it to the 5th column in the first row, so position 5. so according to the table, i am sending 10000101 on the 8 data lines of the lcd (register select pulled low). the cursor does not move there however. and i cant move the cursor left or right too. is it something wrong that i am doing? thank you.
