Anywhere you can make a timer control circuit etc.
A simple clock
or a time keeper circuit.. it depends on you how you want to use it.. and where you want to use it.

Implement I2C communication, and to send and receive data from an I2C device. in this case its an RTC.

there are not too many blocks!!
one is LCD, second is controller and last is RTC. see the datasheets and you can write anything about these on your behalf

To Understand and implement the Inter IC communication.
To make use of a RTC and successfully make a working clock for demonstration of I2C communication.
Understand LCD and its interface with a Microcontroller.
