I do not recommend using modem+GPS combo. their GPS performance is worst. I suggest you to go with two different modules. I am using Quectel GSM modems and GPS modules (http://www.quectel.com/) they are cheaper and highly reliable. My friend is a supplier so I get a good price too. They also provide facility to write your code in modem so you dont need any extra controller on board. Their modem has two general purpose uarts and one debug port and around 40 multifunction GPIOs.

As told by AJay, its never a good idea to use a combo gsm+gps
and yes quectel.com modems are really nice, had used it sometimes ago.
If you dont get quectel modem, you can simply go for any sim300 or sim900 based modems from lot of Online shops like sunrom, nskelectronics, etc.. and use a dedicated GPS receiver.

I did not tested sim908 but i tested earlier version of SIMcom's GSM-GPS combos. performance is not good. If you want you can get one and do some testing on it only then finalize it.
