hello

i want to interface stepper motor with 8051.But i don t have information about the pin configuration of the motor. The motor has just a female connector with 6 pins. 2 of them are shorted in connector. But when i tested it with the multimeter, i found that all the pins in the connector are internally shorted. now i am confuse how to interface the motor as all the pins are internally shorted.

Whats the motor specification Part # you need to use some driver IC like L298 for current upto 2A

Two pins are connected,intended to be common supply or earth.

The rest are probably not actually shorted, just low resistance.
Find a way to measure low resistances, then measure the windings.
This will give an idea of what voltage and current is needed to drive the motor.

I did not understand how could i find the pin connections. shall i use it randomly to test the pins according to movement??
Actually i have no knowledge of motors,had just started working on it.
i have checked the datasheets. but i did not find the enough information. The ratings are as- Drive Voltage=24v,
Current/Phase=600 ma.i also want toknow that can i use ULN 2803 to drive the motor??

I found this when searched for PM 35L-048


It clearly explains the coil number and so easy to find steps. step angle is 7.5 degrees.

That may not be the same motor as it only shows four wires.
This web page says five wires and 5-12 volts.

@Phil, yes 6 connector wire is same as 5 in which common is shorted and comes out on port. I think the datasheet I gave is for bipolar stepper where as he is using a unipolar stepper motor (5/6 wires).

thanks, ajay sir. the link given u was helpful. i found the pin arrangements. they are all in sequence 1-2-5-6, except common pin, which is at 3-4 position.
now i have to interface it with 8051. i have used IC L 293 to drive the motor. But as i power on my system, the motor moves a step forward and then backward and stops. the micro-controller is getting heat up. Does not work like my program, where i want to start motor , when a switch is pressed.
what can be the problem?? is l293 is not able to drive the motor??
