i am using a GSM modem specifically SIM300 and the sim is not registering to the network...i checked it using the AT+CREG? command and it returns +CREG:0,2 which means it is searching for an operator to register to. after sometime on the query again i get +CREG:0,0 which means it is no longer searching for an operator. it is a new sim(tata docomo) which works fine in a cell phone. when i use a sim from a different operator(vodafone) it is registering.

i googled for this problem and i could see one other person who faced this problem but there was no solution provided there.

if you have a solution or any troubleshooting tips please let me know. thanks in advance!

It could be a signal problem.
Do you have a good antenna, and power supply (at least 2 amps) ?

signal strength is good at+csq? returns 31.0. power supply also shouldnt be a problem since it is detecting the vodafone sim. the problem is if i use only the tata docomo sim. i tried to check if IMEI and SIM number are valid and that is fine too. it seems reasonable to think that the problem is with the combination of that particular sim and the SIM300 module. currently i have only 2 types on sims so cannot say for sure what is the problem. i have tried 2 different sims from the same provider and both of them dont register.

You should contact SIMCOM and ask for an updated modem firmware. This problem is very common with modems and new sim versions. You must report this issue to SIMCOM. talk to an FAE or drop an email directly to them.
 Elektro like this.

i got a reply from simcom saying that SIM300 is phased out and no longer support since 3 years. they suggest SIM900B module but i dont want to buy a new one now. any suggestions on how to update the firmware? nothing available in google. thanks in advance!

Yes you can do firmware update on your own. But you need to talk to SIMCOM FAE for that. Coz the software and firmware is probably only available to customers and cannot be shared on open forum. moreover I do not personally use this modem its 3yrs back I worked on it and in the same year We decided to move on to SIM900 coz ARM7 core was going costly so SIMCOM decided to obsolete SIM300.

I think you should move on to SIM900B, coz sim300 is way too old and as SIMCOM said.. they dont even support it now. I do nothing I know anyone who has any firmware update for sim300 modems. So probably You need to look for shifting to newer SIM900B.

PS: Welcome back to India
