could you help in my project i.e. home automation over internet in which i have

only a wireless modem like reliance data card type and microcontroller interface

without the presence of a pc or a laptop at end to be controlled

pc is present at the my end only so that i can control home from any where

there are two kinda modems... 1. with built in IP stacks
2. others for which you write your stacks...
now tell me if i have understood your project...
you want to controll devices by sending commands thru internet ....

best way is by sending data in form of IP packets..
so the best thing for you will be go for a modem with an embedded IP stack cause then all you will need is to call their in built APIs in companies it is easy to get but for freelancers' project it is not easy....

still you can get hold of a SIM - 300 kinda SIMCOM module... and write the IP stack for it...
we already have a member in this forum who has written his own IP stack for SIM 300, he will help you..

the SIM 300 is connected serially to any micro controller of your choice ... preferably 3v3 operated like my favorite LPC2148!!! .

the code can be written in C and compiled with the compiler of that very controller....

so to get started ....
get hold of a suitable module check what is available in your vicinity market and then we may proceed

all this can be acheived only thru GPRS!!!!!

u have to get connected to GPRS and then send/recv IP packets!!

and mobile phones (with gprs) have built in ip stack....right??
