our group has planned on pursuing this project and we're planning to propose this as our undergraduate thesis. we're planning to create a robot that can play a guitar independently, wherein you just need to input chords, musical scores or tabs in your program then the robot will be able to play it. this robot will be able to play basic major and minor guitar chords and can do both strumming and plucking. I just want to hear comments from you guys. what do u think of this project? also how should we implement this and what necessary devices, motors, things we will be needing in making this? what can be the significance and future applications of making this project? what kind of program can we use here? and what kind of controller device do we need? thank you in advance...

what do you think we should do here? what can we use to control the strumming, plucking and the pressing of frets? what do you think can be the significance of doing this project?

emulating human movements is the main not easy task.. and which is the main motive of the project, hence the significance.

What i am thinkin is.. Its not really possible to make a hand doing the exact thing.. rather its possible to do something simpler and feasible.. like making a rail slider which goes over the top area of guitar along with 5 actuators to press the string on particular point to make the exact chord for playing.. This is just an idea.. but still have to look for references..

the complexity of this project can be seen from this video

actually, thats what we are planning to do..its not really a robot hand that will play a guitar..it would be some sort of mechanism. mainly composed of electro-mechanical parts, like solenoids, dc motors, stepper motors, pneumatics if possible.. the fingers that would be pressing the string will be an actuator and there will be also a separate mechanism to pluck and strum the guitar..what other applications can be extracted with this idea? future use? and what can contribute this to modern society?

Is it ok if i ask your email address? is it ok if i give you the draft of our thesis proposal then you comment on it? if thats ok with you and you have time to deal with it. its not yet done, we have made 2 chapters only and needs to put more writings about the significance of making this project. hope you could help us out with this.. thanks a lot in advance...
