I have to display data received from a GPS reciever on a LCD TV
I am new to the area of LCDs but I think it would be difficult with a 8 bit micro.
Please help.

There is no simple way to do that.

>I am new to the area of LCDs

It's not really a matter of being an LCD, more that TVs are not
made to talk to microcontrollers

Can you explain why you have do this ?

It's been done with AVR's .
Check out this link.... http://www.serasidis.gr/circuits/AVR_VGA/avr_vga.htm

Not sure about lcd-tv though. If it has a vga input and uses standard vga frequencies, you can borrow on the above link.

i was looking for one such resource for a long time
the project has been so easily carried out ...
hope it works

I was just thinking how to make it compatible with SVGA monitirs

Seems there was a typo.

>There is no simple way to do that.

Obviously I meant..
There is one simple way to do that.

It should be possible to connect the video output of the project at
http://www.serasidis.gr/circuits/AVR_VGA/avr_vga.htm
to the TV's AV input using the scart connector.

Interestingly, if GIG's TV has HDMI connectors.
According to
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI
that's " High-Definition Multimedia Interface" and could be another way to do it.

If someone knows how

@GIG
I'd still like to know why you are connecting a GPS to a TV.

I have to display the position of a vehicle on a LCD TV/display (1366X768 resolution). This has to be installed in a moving vehicle.
I'll be using D-sub (15 pin)connectors for this which is the default connector available with monitors.
Even i came across
http://www.serasidis.gr/circuits/AVR_VGA/avr_vga.htm
But I'll be using PIC microcontroller.will it work with it also?or i shud also use AVR ?

If anybody can provide me with some more material relating to this???....

Shyam,SVGA works backwards with VGA.
So unless you want 800x600 or greater resolutions, the current project would work on any monitor with a VGA input, but at a VGA resolution of 640x480.

Gig,is it necessary to display at 1366x768?
For text-only purposes, running at native resolution is not necessary,me thinks.

As for the PIC you'll have to rebuild(for an equivalently horsepowered PIC),using the avr project as reference.
Are you more comfortable with PICs?Is using a PIC absolutely necessary?

If not,you can use the avr which is both cheap and readily available.

"For text-only purposes, running at native resolution is not necessary,me thinks."
@shashijoseph
yes i agree to this.

I want to use PIC as i have an experience for them but m new to AVRs. however i think processing with AVR will be fast.what do u suggest?
I'll begin with the current project only. :-|

Also, GPS will be giving me only the Latitude and Longitude from $GPRMC sentence.
How do I display the position in terms of Delhi or mumbai etc...on LCD TV?...
