help needed for speed control of 1-Φ ac motor using igbt with pwm

Hello everyone. i am trying a concept to control speed of a 1-Φ motor with pwm technique. Here instead of using triac or scr, i want to use IGBT. So can anybody tell me the clear properties of IGBT(i.e., which IGBT has to be used, what are its specifications, etc.....). And also tell me the brief over view of IGBT. I am trying to implement it using lpc2129 arm µ.c.
