I received good news from Atmel this evening. They are coming out with a new component, more advanced then the AT89C51ED2 - and it will be offered in a 40 pin package.
From Atmel email to me this evening ...
We're planning to add a new member to our AT89LP single-cycle,
high-speed 8051 family in Q1 2008. It's called AT89LP6440, and it
will offer 64K bytes of flash in-system programmable program mem-
ory in a 40-pin PDIP package
Google AT89LP6440 and you can find two Atmel docs on this new part.

I agree with ajay. it is a really sad issue out here. just hope and pray that new technology is first introduced in india atleast in the near future. ironically, we are the second largest endusers for latest technology (after china).
