do one thing.. do not parse data.. we can do parsing at server side. just send the RMC data to server thats it you do.

read and send to server. you need GPS data from $GPRMC to * only so read and send to server that much of data.

I went through some of the forum threads last night and i found certain comments that states a GSM modem would be sending a message to a particular mobile. If i want to have a live tracking in Open GTS I would be requiring a GPRS modem. Is it true or I can work with a GSM modem. In one of the IEEE papers i found out that we can use this one "Telit GM862-GPS GPS/GPRS" Its a GPS-GPRS module with EVK and antennas. So if i use this would i no longer be requiring a separate GSM modem and a GPS receiver.

GPS-GSM combo modules are not successful or say not efficient enough to work together. So its always better to use a GPS and a GSM module saperately.

regarding GPRS, i think most of GSM modems available in market and most commonly the SIM300 module/modem comes with inbuilt TCP/IP stack for GPRS communication. so you dont have to worry about anything. There are few set of commands that will take your data to server.

i have no idea why are you trying to find everything, online even the code? you know what GPS is going to give you, and you know what you want to send to server, so why there is a problem in just taking data from GPS and storing it in a buffer?

i think it would be better if you can try it on your own. you cannot simulate GPS as such in proteus. but if you are really keen to test it on proteus. use virtual terminal and feed GPS string manually. you can search for sample GPS messages.

and regarding modem, you first need to decide which modem are you going to use. so look for a modem in market, so you can move ahead faster. Try to avoid simulation as fast as you can and get your hands on real hardware.
