I/Os 5V Tolerant means?

Hi,
I am designing ARM7(LPC2129) board
I want to interface 16x2LCD to ARM. In datasheet he states that 5V tolerant I/O pins means i dont require Level shifter naa.
and please guide me for ARM7(I m new to it.)

For data and signal pins, it's OK but not for back-lights....Analyse the blue board schematic...

yeah you dont need converter.. coz you're not reading anything from LCD.. you're only controlling LCD.
