I am glad my method is helpful If your sequence is correct your motor should always rotate in one direction.
what is the power supply rating you've used? L293D gets hot coz motor is trying to draw more current and your voltage falls down. Ultimately your circuit will go off. You might even burn your supply. check your adapter or supply rating.

But as i power on my system, the motor moves a step forward and then backward and stops. the micro-controller is getting heat up.karkipreeti
Sounds like a serious wiring error.
Check your voltage regulator.
What voltage are you putting in and getting out ?
Post your diagram.

i am following the circuit given in tutorial section and attaching it with this post.
a microcontroller is gone:-(. i found that the microcontroller was getting 22v at the supply pins. i have checked all the connections, they are as per the diagram attached.i have confusion about vcc1 and vcc2 of the l293 ic.

22v? Did you go through datasheet of L293? and it looks like your coils are swapped thats the reason your motor is moving step forward and backwards. Check coils again... they motor should go in one direction after supply is applied.
It would be better if you can post your power supply circuit on forum. We can review it for you.

I think I made mistake in tutorial schematic. the unipolar connections to L293 are swapped whereas bipolar stepper are fine. Pin 16 should have 5V and pin 8 goes to stepper voltage. I will update this today
karkipreeti like this.

i think that was the only prblm :-( now the stepper motor is working fine :-)

I am sorry for wrong directions. Mistakes happens once in a while even from experience people good job and thanks for bringing this up.
