AVR ATMEGA32 Camera module+2.8" LCD ??

Hi, I have been searching to find examples of a little project I want to do. The project essential involves mounting a camera in or on a costume helmet and showing the output on a very small LCD inside the helmet. The LCD would have to be pretty thin and not more than 115mm x 65mm x 6mm, prefeably a little smaller, especially thinner. These are only estimates.
This is the closest I have found:

I only need this to show a live feed to the screen. I don't need to do anything else - no recording, sd card, etc.
The unit would need to be battery operated and last for a couple hours at a time, preferably longer. I am ok with swapping batteries.
I contacted that company but got no response. As you can see the camera is plugged into the board. I'd want to have a cable/ribbon to I could mount the camera elsewhere.
Does anyone have any knowledge of such a device? I did a search so excuse me if I missed this. Any help I can get is appreciated. I prefer to not build this from scratch, but if I can assemble a few parts and the process of making it work isn't going to take many hours I'm ok. I'd prefer something that works out of the box but not expecting it.
Any advice of references are appreciated.
Thank you

Digital cameras have a viewfinder, had you considered taking one apart ?

Thanks for your response.
I have, but I want a really small camera. A really small smart phone would work too, but I am not sure If I'd be able to extend the camera with a cable or ribbon. I also don't want wireless due to lag. Lastly with a setup like what I posted I am hoping I would be able to possibly use a low light camera.

OV7670 is a camera with parallel interface, you wont be able to take it to longer distance. Secondly I don't think you will be able to receive enough FPS for real time display. I would suggest going for raspberry pi instead if you're known to Linux.

Thanks for your reply. I'm confused, why can't this interface (parallel) be extended? I'm, not super familiar but I recall parallel port ribbons/cables. It's old school but still a parallel interface lol.
Next, real time display works on this thing:

To my surprise, it is actually working very well with acceptable fps. You will only notice if you move around camera fast enough. I think firmware is tightly written to capture dump on screen, else its hard to achieve this. Second video is with OSD which is not bad either.

So is it possible to mount any type of camera on to the interface that can be extended just a few inches away? I'd prefer a decent low light camera(for being in a bar/nightclub). If this can be done and I can find it for actual purchase, I'll be thrilled. Thank you again.

OV7670 is a basic camera with ISP. For good night vision you need a camera with Wide dynamic range and for sure it can't be interfaced with Arduino or AVR You can instead use IR LEDs to illuminate the area at night (no colors just black/white). To get better results choose a camera with IR filter removed.
You can extend to few inches using a ribbon cable I guess then you'll be sure all parallel lines are length matched.

Thanks, now I have to find this product and figure out how to get it all to work. I'll be a complete newbie at it. Where is the right place to go/start to find out more info and get questions answered? Am I there now?

Also do you have any alternative recommendations to make what I was asking for in my first post?
