maximum how many led can we drive with AT89c2051 with one button as trigger to start the desired pattern (like chaser)of led ?

well if you make a good circuit you can drive good number of LEDs... I mean to say.. use higher power supply taking care of current consumption of the LEDs along with the voltage drop across each LED. and to activate and deactivate the LEDs use transistors (just to secure the port pin)

yes you can just your power supply should be enough to provide current to all you can vary LED resistors to change the brightness but make sure.. if you change Resistors.. then you are varying the current sinking inside the controller
nominal value is 330Ohm.
