I will put some more light on the working of GPS part.

GPS normally factory configured to send 5 messages every 1 second. SIRF 3 compliant GPS can be configured to send selected messages and also at selected time. time can vary from 1s to 255 seconds or to turn off that message.
as you need only one kind of message GPRMC, so you can turn off all other messages.

The GPS spec you have posted is fine. you can go ahead an buy it.

regarding controller. DS89C450 is best for your project, It has 2 uarts and single cycle instructions very fast. you can make use of software uart for debugging incase you want. or simply LED based debug. connect 8 LEDs on a port that defines different status of your program, its easiest way of debugging and you can even debug if your PC or laptop is not available.

PS: I was out on weekend so couldnt reply

DS89C450 instead of this shouldnt i go for AT89C51RE2. As it has enuf memory and ISP,SPI too

do you need SPI in this project? i dont think so.

you need uart only. ad DS89C450 is also SPI, 64K ROM with 1K ram. sufficient for your project.
RE2 does have more memory but i dont think your program will reach that much limit.

check for prices before using any of the controller.

""SiRF Technology Inc. does not support magnetic declination. All “course over ground” data are geodetic WGS48 directions."""

What does this statement mean

Course over ground is direction of motion in degrees with respect to north.

Magnetic Declination is angle between North and needle of compass.

WGS48? well i guess its WGS84 must have been misprinted or something.

WGS84 (World Geodesy System 84) is a Geodesy technique to find out angle according to latitude and longitude. you can do search on wikipedia or google for more information on this.

hey ajay,
thnx man, but there is some slight abeyance in the development of the project because of my exams. My 7th sem exams are about to commence so i would be free after 20th dec. Henceforth i would again continue with the proj.

Is it alright with you?
