AVR or PIC

Hi everyone,

I want to start working on RISC CPU's, But truly confused which to choose. I found AVR and PIC are the most used 8bit micros. But should i start with AVR or PIC? I am really confused. Which one is better for beginner like me? Need suggestion. Thanks in advance.

both are equally good. I prefer PIC as its one of the most used MCU in Industries today. PIC is cheaper and lot of variants are available in market.

Sir if 16F877 or 18 series, please tel which IDE to use. Because im completely new to PIC. If you can, then please provide the Link to download.

You can download new MplabX for all PIC series starting from 10F to 24F. Download XC8 compiler for your PIC16 or 18 series. Lite version of XC8 compiler is completely free to use.

The 18 series generally have more features than the 16 series,
but may be more expensive.
Both use the same programmer.

With a good compiler it makes very little difference which chip you use.
Either the 16F877 or 18F4550 will be okay to start with.
Be sure to get the 'F' series, other types can't be reprogrammed.
