power supply for 24x7 use

Hi Ajay, I wanted to know can we use transformer power supply 24x7 whole year. And which one is better, a transformer power supply or smps power supply along with a voltage regulator for continuous use?

You can use either transformer based or SMPS supply. But for 24/7 operation efficiency of device matters a lot. In this scenario SMPS is way more efficient than transformer base linear supply. Also keep in mind that SMPS introduces switching noise which may cause ringing issue on ground lines. If you are designing your own SMPS then keep this in consideration. I think if you're buying a ready SMPS then good quality provide will take care of it.
