is there some kind of socket or holder for the SIM300 that can make it easier for soldering?
If there is, what is it called?VioletRock
The only way to connect is through the 60 way socket.
You either make a board with the connector on or buy one.
As I posted before....
"I came across this item.
http://www.nskelectronics.in/gsm_kit.html
They might sell the I/O board on its own."
This kit appears to contain a modem and the board you need.
If you could buy the board alone it may be the answer.
I have no experience of this kit or the vendor, so can't vouch for them.
Simcom produce this item

It may be available from other places.

I have the same problem, the sim connector is so small, I just don't have any idea how I'm going to solder it on the PCB....
Do you think we can design the PCB and make it done by a PCB manufacturer for a good price?

geocoding needs a big database which may not be possible in small embedded device, one solution could be to have a server which can take data from your device and then send geocoding information corresponding to you lat, long back to device.
